Amruta Subhashchandra Dhembre was born on 13 May 1979 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Raised in a family connected to the performing arts, she is the daughter of actress Jyoti Subhash and the late Subhashchandra Dhembre. Her upbringing in Mumbai and early exposure to theatre and performance informed a career that bridges stage, regional cinema and Hindi-language projects.

She pursued higher education at S P College in Pune and later trained at the National School of Drama in New Delhi, where she studied under the guidance of Satyadev Dubey. In addition to acting, Amruta is trained in classical music and Bharatanatyam, and lists singing, writing and dancing among her personal interests.

Career
Amruta’s professional journey began in theatre; her stage debut came with the play Urvashiam in 1997. After completing her training at NSD she performed in Hindi plays and later returned to Marathi theatre, taking roles in productions such as Tee Fulrani.
