Ananya Nagalla was born Anusha Nagalla on 1 August 1987 in Sathupalli, then part of Andhra Pradesh and now in Telangana. Raised in a Telugu family, she grew up in the Khammam region and attended school in Sathupalli. Her father was Venkateswara Rao and her mother is Vishnu Priya; she has an elder brother, Gopalakrishna Nagalla.

Ananya pursued higher education at Raja Mahendra College of Engineering in Ibrahimpatnam, where she completed a Bachelor of Technology degree. She later added legal studies to her qualifications by obtaining a law degree. Early in her professional life she joined Infosys in March 2014 as a test analyst and moved on to a software engineer role in the company’s Public Services department.

Career

While working in the IT industry, Ananya accepted an acting opportunity that led to her on-screen debut. Her first appearance came in the short film Shaadi (2017), in which she played the character Shanti. That role earned her a SIIMA Short Film Awards nomination for Best Actress and prompted her to study acting more formally at a school in Manikonda, Hyderabad.

She has described preparing intensively for auditions—including taking a month off from her job—to secure the part.
