Early life and backgroundAnirban Lahiri was born on 29 June 1987 in Pune, Maharashtra, India. He grew up in an army family and learned golf from his father, Dr. Tushar Lahiri, who played recreationally. Lahiri began playing junior events at age twelve at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club. He is of Bengali descent and is comfortable with multiple Indian languages; in addition to English he speaks Bengali and Punjabi. He completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree and lists music and video gaming among his hobbies.
Career
Lahiri turned professional in 2007 and established himself across several circuits, including the Asian Tour, European Tour, the Professional Golf Tour of India and the PGA Tour. Early in his pro career he won multiple events in India and topped domestic Order of Merit standings.
