Early life and background

Anjali Bhardwaj was born in 1973 and grew up in Delhi. She completed her schooling at Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram, finishing in 1991, and went on to study at Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi. She later earned a master’s degree in environmental management from the University of Oxford.

Career

Bhardwaj built a professional path that combined research, consultancy and grassroots activism. Early in her career she worked as a consultant for the World Bank before turning her focus fully to public interest work centered on transparency and accountability.

Her engagement with the Right to Information movement began in 1999. Over the years she became a prominent campaigner, taking on organizational and advocacy roles. She is a co-convenor of the National Campaign for People’s Right to Information (NCPRI) and is one of the founders of Satark Nagrik Sangathan (SNS), a collective that promotes citizens’ oversight of government functioning.
