Anjum Rehbar was born on 17 September 1962 in Guna, Madhya Pradesh. She grew up in that region and later pursued higher education at Jiwaji University in Gwalior, where she completed a postgraduate degree in Urdu literature. Her roots in central India and formal study of Urdu laid the foundation for her career as a poet and lyricist.

Career
Rehbar began appearing at mushairas and kavi sammelans in 1977 and built a reputation as a poet writing in both Urdu and Hindi. She performs ghazals and geets and has been a regular presence at poetry gatherings and on national television.
