Early life and background
Ankita Agarwal was born in Bihar and spent her early years there before her family moved to Kolkata, West Bengal. She completed elementary schooling at Modern Public School in Bihariganj and continued her higher school education at Delhi Public School in Kolkata. Her father, Mohan Aggarwal, ran a hardware business in Bihar prior to the family’s relocation. Her mother is Kiran Aggarwal and she has a brother named Ayush Aggarwal.

Career
Ankita graduated from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, with a degree in economics. During college she was active on campus: she took part in the placement and finance and investment cells, served as editor-in-chief of the yearbook editorial team, joined the economics society and represented the college in basketball until a final-year accident interrupted her sporting pursuits.

After graduating she worked at Dalberg, a development advisory firm, for nearly a year. She also completed short summer internships with nonprofits: two months at CRY (Child Rights and You) in 2015 and three months at Pratham in 2016, both organizations focused on child welfare and education.

Ankita first qualified the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2019, earning All India Rank 236 and joining the Indian Revenue Service. Although she served in the IRS, her stated aim was to enter the Indian Administrative Service. She continued preparing for the UPSC and on her third attempt secured All India Rank 2 in the 2022 examination, scoring 1,050 out of a possible 2,025 marks.
