Ankita Ravinderkrishan Raina was born on 11 January 1993 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. She comes from a Kashmiri Pandit family with roots in Pinglish Tral, Pulwama district, and her family left Kashmir during the early 1990s. Raina grew up speaking Hindi, Gujarati, Kashmiri and English. She has lived in Pune, Maharashtra, and spent part of her education at Brihan Maharashtra for a short time.

Career

Raina is a right-handed player who uses a two-handed backhand. She began making her mark in junior events early, winning the Under-14 Asian Tennis Series, which led to selection among Asia's top junior players and an invitation to play at Melbourne Park. She made her professional debut on the ITF circuit in 2009 and steadily built her career through singles and doubles competition on the ITF and WTA circuits.
