Early life and background
Ankur Bhatia was born on 24 May 1980 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. He grew up in the state and completed a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore. He later moved to the United States for further study and earned a Master’s in Mathematics and Finance from the University of Connecticut. During his time abroad he also took courses in filmmaking and acting at the New York Film Academy.

Career
Bhatia began his on-screen work with short films, appearing in projects such as Beyond Life (2006), Coming Home (2011), Coconut Grove (2011) and A Dirty Business (2012). He made his debut in a short film titled Grant St. Shaving Co (2010) playing the role of Bunty, and his first feature film appearance came with Zanjeer (2013) in which he portrayed Bosco.

Alongside short films and features, Ankur has worked in mainstream Hindi cinema with roles in Sarbjit (2016), Haseena Parkar (2017), Bhavai (2021) and Bloody Daddy (2023). His screen work also includes appearances in contemporary streaming series such as Aarya (2020) on Disney+ Hotstar, Crackdown (2020) on Voot and Taali (2023) on JioCinema.

Before committing full-time to acting, Bhatia held professional roles in the United States in finance and consulting. He worked in actuarial science and finance at Buck Consultants in Connecticut beginning in January 2005, and later held positions in mergers and acquisitions at PwC and Deloitte in New York. From April 2009 to February 2012 he was employed in the actuarial science and finance department at Mercer in New York.

Early in his filmmaking journey, Bhatia received a Best Actor Commendation Award in 2012 at the NYU Tisch School of the Arts Film Festival for his work in the short film Coconut Grove. He was also recognized with The Mumbai Achievers Awards 2020, presented in 2021.
