Anna Hakobyan is an Armenian journalist best known as the editor-in-chief of Haykakan Zhamanak and as the spouse of Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinya
Early life and backgroundAnna Vachiki Hakobyan was born on 1 February 1978 in Yerevan, then part of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic. She grew up in Yerevan and pursued formal study in journalism, earning a bachelor’s degree from Yerevan State University in 1997 and continuing education at the American University of Armenia, completing studies there in 2001.
Career
Hakobyan has worked as a journalist for Haykakan Zhamanak (The Armenian Times), joining the paper in 2003 at a time when Nikol Pashinyan was serving as editor-in-chief. Her responsibilities with the publication increased over time. During a period of political turmoil in 2008, when Nikol Pashinyan was imprisoned, Hakobyan temporarily stepped into the editor-in-chief role. She faced a challenging period until his release in May 2011.
In 2013 she assumed the editor-in-chief position on a permanent basis. Throughout her tenure at Haykakan Zhamanak she has remained publicly associated with the paper’s editorial leadership and its role in Armenian public life.

Hakobyan is widely known in Armenia both for her journalistic work and for her role as the spouse of Nikol Pashinyan, who became Prime Minister following the 2018 political movement often referred to as the Velvet Revolution. During the October 2020 escalation between Azerbaijan and Armenia she announced via social media that she had undertaken combat training with the intention of joining Armenian forces on the Karabakh front, and she was photographed participating in weapons training during that period.
