Annapurna Devi Yadav was born on 2 February 1970 in Ajmeri, Dumka, Jharkhand. She grew up in Dumka and later completed postgraduate studies at Ranchi University. She is identified as Hindu and belongs to the OBC category.

Career

Annapurna Devi entered electoral politics in 1998 following the death of her husband, who had been the legislator for the Kodarma constituency. She joined the Rashtriya Janata Dal and won the Kodarma assembly seat that year. She consolidated her position in subsequent elections, winning re-election in 2000 and again in 2005. During her 2005–2009 tenure in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly she served as Chairperson of the Committee on Women & Child Welfare.

She was re-elected from Kodarma in 2009 for a fourth term as MLA and contested the 2014 Jharkhand Legislative Assembly elections. In 2019, she moved to the national stage when she was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Kodarma parliamentary constituency. As a Member of Parliament, she served on parliamentary panels including the Standing Committee on Industry and the Committee on the Empowerment of Women. In July 2021 she was named to consultative committees for the Ministry of Power and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, and she was appointed Union Minister of State for Education.
