Early life and background

Annmary Tom was born on 6 July 1996 in Kannur, Kerala. She is the only child of Tom Mathew, a teacher at St. Claret School in Barrackpore, and Sumita Tom, also a teacher. Raised between Malayali and Bengali traditions, Annmary learned to navigate both cultures at home and through family influences. Her schooling included time at Alphonsa English Medium School in Keezhpally, Kerala; St. Claret School in Barrackpore; and Auxilium Convent School in Barasat, Kolkata. She later attended St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, and completed a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in computer science.

From a young age Annmary was drawn to dance. She trained in classical forms including Kathak and Bharatanatyam and participated in school cultural programs. Dance remained a visible part of her life: she posts dance videos to a self-titled YouTube channel and continued practicing seriously after recovering from injuries sustained in an accident in 2019. Although medical advice once required her to pause dancing, she returned to regular practice by 2022.

Career

Annmary began her professional journey in modelling, appearing in print campaigns and commercials. In 2020 she worked on a print shoot for Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers and other advertisements. The following year she transitioned to acting, entering the Bengali television industry.

Her first television role came in 2021 when she was cast as Binapani Roychowdhury in the Star Jalsha series Gramer Rani Binapani. The audition process required travel from Barrackpore to Kolkata and involved a look test; learning of her selection was an emotional milestone she shared with family and friends. As she adapted to acting in Bengali for the role, her mother gave her additional language lessons to strengthen her conversational skills. Annmary has described Bengali as a language she learned practically rather than through formal study, and she worked on reading Bengali scripts and materials to improve.

In 2023 she appeared in the Bengali television show Phaguner Mohona, playing the character Rumjhum opposite actor Siddharth Sen. Beyond television, Annmary continues to be represented as an actress, model and choreographer in the regional entertainment space.
