Anshu Malik was born on 5 August 2001 in Nidani village, Jind district, Haryana. Raised in a family with deep roots in combat sports, she grew up around wrestling: her father, Dharamvir Malik, was an international junior wrestler in the 1990s, her mother Manju Malik has been involved in freestyle wrestling and her brother Shubham Malik also competes in the sport. Anshu attended Chaudhary Bharat Singh Memorial Sports School in Nidani, where she combined regular schooling with the sports training that set the foundation for her career.

She began wrestling in 2012 after watching her brother train at the sports school and persuaded her father to enroll her.
