Early life and background

Anshul Jubli was born on 13 January 1995 in New Delhi and grew up with roots in Bhatwari Village, Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand. He is of Garhwali ethnicity and completed a Bachelor of Science degree. His father, Ravindra Singh Jubli, is a retired Border Security Force officer and his mother is Jagdamba Jubli. He has four sisters: Aastha, Ayushi, Shalini and Manisha. As a child he experienced bullying, which pushed him toward field sports such as football and volleyball. Before committing full time to mixed martial arts, he gave mathematics tuition in Dehradun.

Career

Jubli’s entry into mixed martial arts began in 2015 after being introduced to the sport by a friend’s elder brother. He made his amateur debut at the Bodypower 2016: India Open MMA Championships and went on to build an unbeaten amateur record. Training in New Delhi at Crosstrain Fight Club from 2018, he worked with coach Siddharth Singh and developed skills in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, kickboxing and grappling while living modestly and borrowing money to pursue fights and travel.

He turned professional in June 2019, stepping onto the card of Matrix Fight Night 2 after volunteering to fight Sanjeet Budhwar, and won by unanimous decision. Jubli continued his winning run across MFN events: he defeated Amit Kumar at MFN 3 in December 2019, delivered a knockout against Rajith Chandran in MFN Season 4 in February 2020, and added wins at MFN 5 and MFN 6, the latter by submission via an arm-triangle choke.

In 2022 he competed on the Road to UFC tournament in Las Vegas. After advancing when an opponent was disqualified in the quarter-finals, Jubli won a split decision in the semi-finals against KyeongPyo Kim. He then secured victory in the final on 5 February 2023, defeating Jeka Saragih, and earned a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Jubli fights in the lightweight division with a listed height of 1.83 m (6 feet) and a fighting weight around 70.5 kg (155.5 lbs). His fighting style is described as switch, and he has trained with Soma Fight Club in Indonesia as well as under coach Siddharth Singh. As of February 2023 his professional record was noted as 7-0, complementing an undefeated amateur slate.

Known by the nickname AJ and sometimes called the King of Lions, Jubli has been recognised within India’s MMA scene with awards including Indian Fighter of the Year by MMA India Show in 2021 and Best Fighter at MFN 2 in 2019. He also won a gold medal at the National Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Open Championship in 2018 and earned accolades at domestic MMA events earlier in his career. In January 2023 he signed with sports management firm Paradigm.

Outside the cage he is a dog lover and owns a golden retriever named Scooby. He follows non-vegetarian dietary habits and occasionally consumes alcohol. He cites figures such as Virat Kohli and M.S.
