Antim Panghal was born on 31 August 2004 in Bhagana, a village in Hisar district of Haryana. She is the youngest child in the Panghal household and grew up in a sporting family: her elder sister Sarita is a kabaddi player and Antim travelled with family to watch local wrestling matches as a child. Her father, Ramniwas Panghal, played a hands-on role in supporting her training, including arranging for her to relocate to Hisar so she could train without a long daily commute. The family environment was geared toward giving her the nutrition and practical support needed for a wrestling career.

Career

Antim came through India’s age-group wrestling system and made an early international impact. She won the U-15 national 49 kg title in 2018 and that year also claimed a bronze in the U-15 Asian Wrestling Championship. In 2020 she took gold at the Junior Asian Championship and added a silver at the U-23 Asian Championship, showing the ability to beat older opponents.

Her progression continued with a bronze in the 53 kg class at the 2021 World Cadets Championship in Budapest. In July 2022 she recorded her first senior-level gold at a ranking series event in Tunis, defeating an opponent from the United States in the 53 kg division.

August 2022 marked a major milestone when Antim won gold at the U-20 World Wrestling Championships in Sofia, becoming the first Indian woman to take that title at the U-20 level. Her performances across 2023 were recognized by United World Wrestling, which named her the women’s Rising Star of the Year.
