Anu pursued higher education at Hindu College, University of Delhi, earning a B.Sc (Hons). She later completed an MBA in Finance and Marketing from IMT Nagpur, combining a science undergraduate background with professional management training.

Career
Before entering the civil services, Anu spent nearly a decade working in the private sector. She was employed at Aviva Life Insurance and at the time was reportedly earning an annual package of ₹20 lakh. In 2016 she left that job to focus on preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination.

Her first full attempt at the UPSC exam was in 2016, when she enrolled at Nice Institute in Delhi to prepare. That year she narrowly missed the preliminary exam by a single mark. Undeterred, she intensified her preparation and from June 2016 moved back to live with her parents in Sonepat to concentrate more fully on study. Her preparation routine reportedly involved sustained daily study periods of 10 to 12 hours.
