Anubrata Mondal was born on 1 April 1959 in Bolpur, Birbhum district, West Bengal. Mondal began his political involvement with the Indian National Congress in the early 1990s after meeting Mamata Banerjee. He left the Congress in 1998 to join the newly formed All India Trinamool Congress and became a prominent local leader. In 2000 he was appointed president of the TMC’s Birbhum district unit, a post he has held since then.
