Early life and background

Anuj Rawat was born on 17 October 1999 in the village of Rooppur, Ram Nagar, in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. He grew up in a middle-class farming family; his father is named Virendra Pal Singh and he has a brother, Prashant Rawat. Rawat attended Bal Bhavan International School and later enrolled at the University of Delhi.

From an early age he practised at a small cricket academy near his home. A coach who recognized his potential advised the family to relocate to Delhi so Anuj could access more structured coaching and better cricketing opportunities. Despite limited financial resources, his family supported that move and continued to fund his training while he pursued the sport.

Career

Anuj Rawat is a left-handed batter who also performs wicket-keeping duties. He made his first-class debut for Delhi on 6 October 2017 in a match against Assam. He later featured for Delhi in Twenty20 and List A formats, making his Twenty20 debut in the 2018–19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on 21 February 2019 and appearing in List A competition during the 2019–20 season.

At the junior international level, Rawat was part of the India Under-19 squad that won the 2018 Asia Cup. He also captained the India U19 side in a two-match series against Sri Lanka in 2018, leading the team to victories in that four-day series.

In the Indian Premier League player auction ahead of the 2020 season, Rawat was bought by the Rajasthan Royals for INR 80 lakh. Domestically he has been associated with the Delhi team and, at the franchise level, with the Rajasthan Royals.

Latest updates

Rawat continues to be identified with Delhi in domestic cricket and has experience with the Rajasthan Royals franchise after the IPL 2020 auction. He has moved from village-level training to professional domestic cricket and has taken on leadership responsibilities at the junior international level.
