Anuja Boma Joshi was born on 19 August 1993 in Virginia, United States, and spent her early years there. From a young age she trained in Hindustani classical vocal music and was active in musical theatre during school. She also trained in Kuchipudi and completed her Rangapravesam, a full-length solo dance performance, at age eighteen.

Anuja comes from a family with roots in Indian cinema. Her father, Alankar Joshi (known as Master Alankar), was a child actor in several notable Bollywood films of the 1970s and 1980s. Her aunt is the National Award–winning actress Pallavi Joshi. She has a twin sister, Aneesha Joshi, who is also an actress.

Education

Anuja graduated from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. After that she completed a specialization course in film direction at the Kanbar Institute of Film and Television, where she trained under Alice Spivak and Grace Kiley.

While building her professional training, she completed an internship at NBCUniversal Media that exposed her to late-night and variety shows, and later worked on the marketing and digital team at SYFY, supporting programs such as Suits and Mr. Robot.
