Early life and background
Anwesshaa was born on 15 December 1993 in Virar, Palghar, Mumbai, and moved with her family to Kolkata at a very young age. Raised in a musical household by parents who are both singers, she began formal vocal training as a child. By age four she was studying under Jayant Sarkar, a disciple of Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, and developed a foundation in Hindustani classical music.

She attended Lycée School in Kolkata and later graduated from Amity University in Kolkata. Growing up in Kolkata shaped both her education and early performance opportunities; she appeared on regional television as a child and took part in multiple local competitions and music programs.

Career
Anwesshaa’s professional career began in the late 2000s with playback singing and composing across several Indian languages. Her first credited film playback work includes the Bengali song “Ek Je Ache Raja” from the film Khela (2008) and two tracks for the Hindi film Golmaal Returns (2008). She expanded into television composition with the title music for the Bengali serial Binni Dhaner Khoi (2009) and released a solo album, Nachiketar Ebar Safar, that same year.

Over the years she has recorded songs in many Indian languages and film industries. Notable regional debuts and credits include Tamil (Mandhira Punnagai, 2010), Telugu (Uu Kodathara Ulikki Padathara, 2012), Bhojpuri (Lakshman Rekha, 2013), Marathi and Kannada (both 2016), Rajasthani (2016), Malayalam (Theeram, 2017) and Gujarati (Khedut Ek Rakshak, 2022). Among her better-known Bollywood contributions is the track “Banarasiya” from the film Raanjhanaa (2013), and she also sang “Jalte Diye” from Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015). In 2013 she featured on Coke Studio @ MTV Season 5 with a ghazal composed by Papon. In 2017 she collaborated with Javed Ali on song compositions for the film Limelight.
