Aparajita Sarangi was born on 8 October 1969 in Bhagalpur, Bihar. Raised in a family where both parents worked as teachers, she completed a bachelor’s degree in English before preparing for the civil services. She cleared the Indian Civil Services examination on her first attempt and joined the Indian Administrative Service in the 1994 batch.

Career

Sarangi served in the Odisha cadre during a long career in the state administration. Her early postings included the role of sub-collector in Hindol, Dhenkanal district. Over the years she moved through several key district leadership positions, serving as Collector and District Magistrate in Khurda, Koraput, Nuapada and Bargarh.
