Early life and background

Apinderdeep Singh was born on 3 March 1994 in Amritsar, Punjab. Raised in a Sikh family, he attended Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Golden Avenue in Amritsar before completing a diploma in civil engineering from Government Polytechnic College (2011–2014) and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Amritsar College of Engineering & Technology (2015–2018).

While growing up in Amritsar he developed an interest in Sikh martial arts and began training in Gatka from around fourth grade. He also started modelling during his school years, taking part in Sikh pageants where he won the title of Mr Turban in 2011 and was a grand finalist in the Mr Singh and Kaur contest in 2014.

Career

Apinderdeep’s early on-screen work included supporting roles in Punjabi music videos. In 2015 he appeared in the video for the song “Fan Jarnail Singh Da” by Bikramjeet Singh Khajala, and in 2016 he featured as a photographer in the music video “Blur” by San-Dee featuring Addy. He also appeared in the 2020 music video for the Punjabi song “Malook” by Apurva Sethi.

He moved between creative roles behind the camera and on-screen work. Before entering the entertainment industry full time he spent a year working in the corporate sector. In 2020 he served as one of the casting directors on the short film “Soul of Woman.” The following year he worked as chief assistant director on the short film “Bali.”

Apinderdeep has experience in feature films and web productions in assistant-directing roles. He was an assistant director on the Hindi film Jersey (listed as an assistant director credit, 2022) and assisted director Ratna Sinha as third assistant director on the 2022 release Middle-class Love. He also worked as third assistant director to Mayank Sharma during the production of season two of the web series Breathe: Into The Shadows, which premiered on Amazon Prime in 2022.

As an actor, his Punjabi film debut credit is Kirdar-e-Sardar (2017). In 2016 he had been attached to the shelved production 21: Battle of Saragarhi, for which he was to play the character Gurmukh Singh. In 2021 he relocated to Mumbai to focus on acting full time, attended auditions for the Netflix film Jogi and was cast as Sukhi, the elder brother of the title character. That role marked a turning point in his career path toward on-screen performance.
