Arjun (Firoz Khan) Biography

Firoz Khan, widely known by his screen name Arjun after the iconic 1988 television adaptation of the Mahabharat, is an Indian actor whose career spans film

Early life and background
Firoz Khan was born and raised in Mumbai into a middle‑class Muslim family. He completed his schooling in the city and attended Shrimati Mithibai Motiram Kundnani College of Commerce & Economics (M. M. K. College) in Mumbai. After graduating there, he went to England for further studies at Oxford University. On returning to India, he initially explored a career outside acting, intending to join the Taj hotel, before finding his way into films and television.

Career
Khan made his Hindi film debut in Manzil Manzil (1984). He went on to appear across multiple Indian film industries, including Telugu and Kannada cinema. Notable early work listed includes a Telugu appearance in Swayam Krushi (1987) and a Kannada role in Hello Daddy (1996). Over the course of his career he acted in more than 250 films and took on a wide range of characters, from action heroes to complex antagonists.

His breakthrough and most enduring public identity came with the role of Arjun in B. R. Chopra’s television serial Mahabharat (1988). The part made him a household name and, according to recounting from his career, altered how audiences and even his family commonly refer to him. Following Mahabharat, Khan continued to work in cinema and television, taking roles such as Arjun Singh in Khatron Ke Khiladi (1988), Duryodhan in Jigar (1992), Rasik Nath Gundaswamy in Tirangaa (1992), Naahar Singh in Karan Arjun (1995), Billoo in Mehndi (1998), and a Sikh inspector in Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 (2013).

In 2016 he made a digital appearance, doing a cameo in the web series I Don’t Watch TV, which premiered on Arre and YouTube. Beyond acting on screen, Khan has performed as a singer at live events and in March 2020 he recorded his first Bollywood song for the film Mobile India.

Public profile
Khan’s path to the role of Arjun included an audition that required him to navigate Hindi dialogue at a time when he was not fluent in the language. He translated lines into English to prepare and credits scriptwriters and colleagues for helping him overcome that challenge. Colleagues from Mahabharat, including Gufi Paintal, played roles in his casting for the series, and he has maintained friendships with fellow cast members such as Gajendra Chauhan.

Though born Muslim, Khan has expressed reverence for Hindu traditions and visits religious sites associated with Shiva and Shakti. He has also spoken about his appreciation for Uttarakhand and keeps a bungalow near Shastradhara in Dehradun where he spends time.

Outside of acting, Khan has an interest in boxing and has been a boxing champion for Maharashtra. He is also a fan and performer of songs in the style of singer Mohammed Rafi. Politically, he has been reported to support the BJP and took part in campaigning during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Personal life
Khan is married to Kashmira. The couple have three children: a son, Jibraan Khan, who worked as a child actor in films such as Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001) and Rishtey (2002), and two daughters, Farah Khan Bari and Sanah Khan.
