Early life and background

Arjun Mohan was born and raised in Kannur, Kerala, and completed his school education at Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Tripunithura. He studied electrical and electronics engineering at the National Institute of Technology, Calicut, and later earned an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode. In 2022 he completed an Advanced Program in Management at INSEAD. He is fluent in English, Hindi and Malayali.

Career

Arjun Mohan's professional career began in technology, where he joined Rambus in Bengaluru in 2006 as a technical staff member. He later worked briefly at Mentor Graphics as a field application engineer and completed a summer internship at HSBC in Mumbai during his time as a postgraduate student.

After finishing his MBA, Mohan moved into management roles across services and consumer businesses. He joined Tata Services in 2012 as a TAS manager and then took on national sales and operations responsibilities at Titan Company Limited in Bangalore from 2013 to 2016. He had an early association with Byju's as a part-time consultant while based in Bangalore, a relationship that would expand in later years.

In 2016 Mohan returned to Byju's in a senior leadership capacity as vice president (marketing). He was promoted to chief business officer in 2019 and remained with the company until 2020. In March 2020 he became CEO of upGrad, a role he occupied until February 2023. During 2022–2023 he also served as a part-time board director at Talentedge in Gurugram.

Mohan's governance and advisory roles have included a part-time appointment to the board of advisors for the Electrical Engineering department at the National Institute of Technology, Calicut, and a seat on the board of directors of The Mom Store in Bengaluru. In March 2023 he joined the board of directors at Sharekhan, the retail brokerage firm based in Mumbai.

In September 2023 Mohan was appointed chief executive officer at Byju's. He resigned from that post in April 2024.

Across his career he has acquired certifications in consumer behavior, investment analysis and portfolio management, mergers and acquisitions and corporate restructuring, product and brand management, and strategic marketing from the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode.
