Arjun Rampal was born on 26 November 1972 in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, and grew up in a multicultural household. His father is Sikh and his mother was Dutch. After his parents separated, his mother raised him. Rampal attended St. Patrick School in Deolali and later studied at Hindu College, University of Delhi, where he earned a B.A. in Economics.

He began modelling as a teenager and rose to prominence in the Indian fashion world by his early twenties, earning recognition such as Society’s Face of the Year in 1994. During his early modelling career he formed industry relationships that helped establish his profile, including the support of designer Rohit Bal.
