Early life and backgroundArun Bikramjit Bali was born on 23 December 1942 in Delhi, India. He grew up in a Punjabi Muhiyal (Brahmin) family. While still a schoolboy he experienced the loss of his father. He pursued dramatic training at the National School of Drama before entering the entertainment industry.
Career
Bali began his screen work on television, with one of his earliest credited TV projects dated to 1989. He made his film debut in 1991, appearing in the Hindi film Saugandh and the Punjabi film Visakhi the same year. Over the following decades he built a reputation as a dependable character actor across Hindi cinema and television.
His filmography includes supporting parts in notable productions such as 3 Idiots (2009), Barfi (2012), Punjab 1984 (2014), and Laal Singh Chaddha (2022). His final film credit is listed as Goodbye (2022). Across a long career he worked in more than forty films and appeared in over twenty-five television serials.
Bali was also recognized for his singing ability and occasionally took on roles that drew on that talent. He was known to play characters wearing turbans and had adopted the style personally after thinking it suited him while growing up.
