Arun Sagar was born on 23 October 1965 in Sagara, Karnataka. He grew up in that region and attended St. Mary’s High School in Bangalore. He is Indian by nationality and his zodiac sign is Scorpio.

Career

Arun Sagar’s professional life spans acting, art direction and comedic work primarily within the Kannada entertainment industry. His early screen appearances included a cameo in the 1996 film Janumada Jodi. He made his credited Kannada film debut in 2002 with Marma, in which he played the role of Pratap.

Alongside acting, Sagar built a substantial résumé as an art director. He received the Karnataka State Award for Best Art Director in 2002 and won the 3rd Suvarna Film Award for Best Art Director in 2010. His art direction credits include films such as Sri Manjunatha (2001), Dhumm (2002), The Villain (2018), Mayabazar 2016 (2020) and he served as production designer on Kotigobba 3 (2021).

On screen he has often taken on cameo appearances across Kannada films, including roles in Parva, Chandu (2002), Pournami (2006), Sanju Weds Geetha (2011), Just Maath Maathalli (2010) and Benkipatna (2015). In 2022 he appeared in a cameo role in the film RRR.

Television has been an important part of his career since the 1990s, beginning with the children’s show Tarrle. He later moved into hosting and reality television, appearing as the host of Tarrle on Kasturi TV and participating in multiple Kannada reality shows such as Maja with Surja (2015), Comedy Circle (2015), Bengaluru Benne Dose (2015), Cookku with Kirikku (2021) and Bigg Boss Kannada Season 9 (2022).

Sagar has spoken publicly about his ambitions to move into directing. In 2020 he described a planned project centered on Mallakhamba, a storyline he characterized as rooted in real events and intended as a historical film, mentioning that a Marathi producer had given a green signal for the project. He has also said that, despite recognition as an art director and actor in Karnataka, opportunities to direct in the Kannada industry did not come to fruition in earlier years.

Sagar married Meera Arun on 7 March 1994. Meera is the founder and an art teacher at Vruksha School of Fine Arts in Bengaluru. The couple have two children: a daughter, Aditi Sagar, who is a playback singer, and a son, Surya Sagar, who competes in boxing and Muay Thai. Aditi received recognition for her singing work, including awards such as the Chandanavan Critics Award and a Mirchi Music Award, and in 2022 she sang the Hindi song “The Monster” from the film KGF2. Arun has noted his children’s achievements in interviews.
