Early life and background

Arun Verma was born in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, in 1959. He completed a Bachelor of Commerce at Government Hamidia Arts & Commerce Degree College after attending Model Higher Secondary School in Bhopal. During his college years he was a national-level hockey player, according to his own social media account.

Career

Verma began his artistic journey in theatre. In the early 1980s he performed in a string of stage productions, including plays produced between 1981 and 1984. That foundation in live performance led him into cinema: his first film appearance was a supporting role in Dacait (1987).

Across several decades he worked prolifically in Hindi cinema, appearing in more than 80 films. Selected screen credits mentioned from his filmography include Khal Nayak (1993), Nayak (2001), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) and Kick (2014). He also acted in television serials and later in web series; one of his more recent screen projects was the web series Shukla The Tiger (2021). As of January 2022 he was associated with the film Tiku Weds Sheru, which was noted as under production.

Alongside acting, Verma pursued visual arts and writing. He painted and composed poetry in his leisure time, and he ran a gallery shop in Mumbai called My Studio- The Gallery.

In early 2022 Arun Verma fell seriously ill after suffering a blockage in the brain that led to progressive organ failure. He was admitted to Peoples Hospital in Bhopal, where he died on 20 January 2022 at 2:00 am. The reported immediate cause of death was kidney failure.
