Early life and background

Arunabh Kumar was born on 26 November 1982 in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. He grew up in a family that moved several times while his parents sought better opportunities for his education. The family ultimately settled in Jaipur, where Arunabh attended Vidhyashram school before going on to study electrical engineering at IIT Kharagpur, earning a B.Tech degree.

Career

After college Arunabh briefly worked as a research assistant for the US Air Force project at IIT Bombay. He left that position within months and shifted his focus toward filmmaking. Early in his film career he worked at Red Chillies Entertainment as an assistant on Om Shanti Om, where he carried out routine on-set duties and made a small appearance in the film.

Frustrated by the limited opportunities available to him in mainstream film, Arunabh began producing corporate films and short audiovisual projects for agencies and clients. Around 2010–11 he founded TVF Media Labs as a branded-content production company. With financial stability established, he moved to create original long-form content and launched an online network under the name The Viral Fever (TVF).

Under his leadership TVF produced several well-known web series that explored everyday life and youth experiences. Shows associated with the platform include Yeh Meri Family, Gullak, Kota Factory and Panchayat. Several of these series received strong audience ratings. TVF and Arunabh received multiple industry recognitions in the 2010s, including listings on influential young-professional lists and awards such as Newsmaker of the Year and Men of the Year honors.

In 2017 Arunabh stepped down as CEO of TVF amid a series of public allegations that affected the company’s image; leadership of the platform was handed over to Dhawal Gusain in June of that year. After TVF he co-founded Indusverse in 2019 with Saumin Patel and Alok Sharma. Indusverse is a publishing venture focused on comics that address social themes, with Arunabh serving as CEO.
