Early life and background

Arundhati Garnaik was born on 30 July 1997 in Angul, Orissa. Raised in her hometown, she completed her school education at Venkateswar English Medium School in Rassulgarh and Loyola School in Bhubaneswar before pursuing higher studies at Rama Devi Women’s University in Bhubaneswar. She grew up in a family where her father, Randhir Garnaik, worked as a soft skills trainer, her mother is Sonal Singh, and she has a brother, Anurag Garnaik, who is an athlete.

Career

Arundhati trained in dance after finishing school, first at M Zone Dance Studio in Bhubaneswar and later under choreographer Mandakini Jena. She is versed in a wide range of styles, including classical forms, kathak, folk, chhau, salsa, jazz, and Bollywood dance.

Her television debut came in 2014 when she competed on Dance India Dance Season 4 and reached the show’s later stages as one of the top six finalists. During that run she experienced a serious spinal cord injury, which led her to leave the competition.

In 2016 she moved to Mumbai and joined the Terence Lewis Dance Company. That year she also took part in So You Think You Can Dance on &TV. Over the following years she remained active on stage and television: she joined Terence Lewis’s Kamshet Project in 2020 and performed with her team at the Kabbadi World Cup premiere and at the Khelo India University Games in Cuttack the same year. Also in 2020 she appeared as a contestant on the Flipkart Video show The Great India Dance Off.

Arundhati returned to mainstream reality shows in 2021 with Dance Deewane Season 3 on Colors TV, and in 2022 she competed on Dance Ikon on AHA. By 2023 she had expanded her work into choreography on national television, credited as a choreographer on India’s Best Dancer on Sony Entertainment Television. In 2024 she served as the choreographer for Glenn Saldanha on the 11th season of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, also on Sony Entertainment Television.
