Early life and background

Arvind Singh was born on 17 June 1996 in Khabra, Khurja, in Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh. Raised in a farming family, his father is Vijay Singh. He has two brothers and one sister. Arvind completed schooling through the 12th grade before pursuing a career in the Indian Army.

As a teenager he played cricket as an all-rounder and only discovered rowing after his selection into the Army. On his fifth attempt he joined the Indian Army in 2013. His athletic build led to selection for the Army rowing team in 2016, and he moved to the Army Rowing Node in Pune for structured training.
