Early life and background

Asaduddin Owaisi was born on 13 May 1969 in Hyderabad, then in Andhra Pradesh. Raised in a political family, he attended Hyderabad Public School before continuing his studies at St. Mary's Junior College and Nizam College in Hyderabad. He later studied law at Lincoln's Inn, London, where he completed his LLB during the period 1989–1994.

Career

Owaisi has built a career in elective politics with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). He first won election to a legislative assembly seat in 1994 and secured a second term as an MLA in 1999. In 2004 he made the transition to the national parliament when he was elected to the Lok Sabha representing the Hyderabad constituency.

He retained the Hyderabad seat in subsequent general elections, winning re-election in 2009 and again in 2014, when he secured a majority of the vote. In 2019 he defeated his main challenger from the Bharatiya Janata Party by a margin of 273,000 votes. In the 2024 Lok Sabha election he once more retained the Hyderabad seat, winning by a record margin of 338,087 votes.

Throughout his political life Owaisi has been a vocal advocate on issues affecting minority communities and has been associated with policy positions that emphasize reservations and representation for backward sections of Muslim society.
