Early life and background

Ashi Chouksey was born on 7 March 2002 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Raised in the same city she calls home, she attended Carmel Convent Sr. Secondary School in B.H.E.L., Bhopal. As a schoolgirl she joined the National Cadet Corps, where exposure to shooting first drew her toward the sport.

Following school, Chouksey continued her education at Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar and completed a Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports in 2022. She later trained at the Madhya Pradesh State Shooting Academy to pursue air rifle shooting more seriously.

Career

Chouksey is an air rifle specialist who trains under coach Suma Shirur. Early selection for professional training was competitive: during trials at the state academy she was one of just two athletes chosen out of 225 candidates.

Her international career has produced medals across junior and senior levels. In 2021 she helped India secure a bronze in the 50m 3-Positions women’s team event at the ISSF World Cup in Changwon. The following year she claimed gold in the 50m 3-Positions mixed team event at the ISSF World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Also in 2022 she represented India at the ISSF World Championships in Cairo and won two bronze medals at the Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany—one in an individual event and one in the women’s team competition. That year she was part of the Indian squad that won silver in the 10m air rifle team event at the competition held in Hangzhou, China.

Chouksey continued her upward trajectory into university-level events and multi-sport regional competitions. At the Chengdu FISU World University Games in August 2023 she took silver in an individual event and gold in a team event. At the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou in September 2023 she won silver as part of the 50m rifle 3-position team and also earned bronze in the women’s 50m rifle 3-position individual competition.
