Early life and background

Ashu Jain was born on 9 August 1967 and grew up in Delhi. She completed her undergraduate engineering degree (B.Tech.) from Jamia Millia Islamia in 1989. After graduating, she worked briefly as a polytechnic teacher for about a year before marrying and focusing on family responsibilities.

Her academic journey continued much later in life. Encouraged by her children, Ashu returned to higher education in her forties. She earned an M.Tech. in Nanotechnology from Jamia Millia Islamia, where she performed strongly in her cohort. She then pursued doctoral studies at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and completed a PhD, after which the family relocated to Dehradun.

Career

Ashu is known publicly as a fitness influencer. She also participates in organized running events and, in February 2025, completed a 10 km race at the Doon Half Marathon organized by the Aldaa Foundation, placing second in her age group and ninth overall.

Ashu built a social media presence under the handle Not Just A Grandma, creating vlogs that focus on mindset, fitness, cooking and life experiences. As her online presence grew, she eventually joined her daughter’s startup in a professional role.

In 2025 Ashu expanded her public profile by taking part in MTV Roadies Season 20: Double Cross, which aired on MTV India and streamed on JioCinema.
