He has described modest beginnings after leaving home and has spoken about taking odd jobs related to the game, including umpiring local matches, to cover basic expenses while he worked toward establishing himself as a cricketer. During his youth he admired local players and contemporary Indian batters, and he has said that a period of self-discipline and hard work during his under-19 years coincided with a breakthrough innings that deepened his interest in cooking as a hobby.

Career

Ashutosh is a right-handed batsman who came through the Madhya Pradesh youth system. He made his debut for the Madhya Pradesh under-19 side in 2016 and played for Madhya Pradesh in various formats thereafter. He featured in a Zonal T20 League match on 12 January 2018 and made his List A debut for Madhya Pradesh in the 2019–20 Vijay Hazare Trophy on 16 October 2019.

In 2022 he joined Indian Railways as a junior clerk and relocated to Bhopal, while remaining active in domestic competitions including the Colonel CK Nayudu Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Ashutosh attracted national attention in October 2023 when he produced one of the fastest half-centuries by an Indian batter in T20 cricket. Playing in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Group C fixture in Ranchi against Arunachal Pradesh, he reached fifty in eleven balls, surpassing a long-standing Indian T20 record.

His performances in domestic T20 cricket led to selection at the 2024 Indian Premier League auction, where he was bought by Punjab Kings. During the 2024 IPL season he played an impactful cameo against Gujarat Titans on 4 April 2024, scoring 31 off 17 balls. After joining Punjab Kings, he began working with coach Sanjay Bangar as part of his development with the franchise.
