Early life and background

Ashwanth Ashokkumar was born on 15 September 2011 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Raised in the city where he was born, he attended Vani Vidyalaya Senior Secondary and Junior College in Chennai. He is the son of P. N. Ashok Kumar, who works as a web designer, and his mother, Akila, a homemaker. Ashwanth has a younger brother named Akhilesh Akila.

Career

Ashwanth began his public career on television as a child contestant on the reality show Junior Super Star in 2016. That appearance helped him transition into acting roles in Tamil cinema.

He made his film debut in Sandakozhi 2 (2018), playing the brother of the protagonist from the television series Sembaruthi. After that, Ashwanth appeared in the acclaimed film Super Deluxe, for which he received nominations in 2020 from the Zee Cine Awards Tamil and the Edison Awards in the Best Child Artist category. He was also nominated for a Galatta Nakshatra Award in 2018 under the Best Child Artist category.

Ashwanth continued to work in Tamil films and is credited with a role in Jagame Thandhiram (2021), a project that included international cast members.

In addition to acting, Ashwanth has engaged in creative work behind the camera. During the COVID-19 lockdown he created a YouTube kids’ drama series titled Ondipulli; reports indicate he contributed as a writer and director and handled much of the story, screenplay, dialogue and voice-over work for the series.
