Raised in his hometown, he completed his higher education at Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology in Chennai and holds a graduation degree. Career

Atlee began his film career working behind the scenes, serving as an assistant director on the high-profile 2010 production Enthiran. He made his debut as a feature film director with Raja Rani in 2013. From that starting point he established himself quickly in Tamil cinema, directing commercially prominent films including Theri (2016), Mersal (2017) and Bigil (2019).
