Early life and backgroundBuss Sumeeth Reddy was born on 26 September 1991 in Gungal Village, Ranga Reddy, Telangana. He grew up in the same village and attended All Saints' High School in Hyderabad before moving on to Osmania University. His father, Bhaskar Reddy, a physical education teacher, began training him in badminton from a young age and played a major role in steering him toward sport.
Sumeeth developed as a junior player through local training programs in Hyderabad and represented India at junior level events, including the Asian Junior Championships in 2007 in the men’s singles category.
Career
Originally a singles player, Sumeeth reached high national standing before a serious back problem around 2010–2011 interrupted his progress. Medical examinations revealed spinal bone degeneration and doctors advised extended rest; he spent several weeks bedridden and faced warnings that he might have to retire. Through rehabilitation, a disciplined fitness regime and persistence he recovered sufficiently to continue his career, though he ultimately transitioned away from singles.
From 2012 onward Sumeeth focused on doubles. After an early pairing with T. Hema Nagendra Babu, he formed a long-term and successful men's doubles partnership with Manu Attri. The duo collected multiple international titles together, winning events such as the Tata Open India International (multiple years), the Mexico City Grand Prix, the Belgian International, the Canada Open and the Lagos International across 2013–2019. Sumeeth has also claimed titles with other partners, including Arjun M.R.
Sumeeth has represented India at major multi-sport and BWF events. He was part of India’s badminton contingent at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in the men’s doubles event alongside Manu Attri. His tournament list includes appearances at events ranging from the Syed Modi Memorial Grand Prix to the Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open, World Championships and the Commonwealth Games.
