Early life and background

Baiju Paravoor was born on 29 May 1981 in Paravoor, Kollam, Kerala. Raised in the same town, he attended Sree Narayana Higher Secondary School in North Paravoor. From his teenage years he showed a keen interest in cinema, setting the stage for a long career behind the scenes in South Indian film industries.

Career

Baiju made his career as a production executive and production controller, building experience across both the Malayalam (Mollywood) and Tamil (Kollywood) film industries. Over roughly two decades he contributed to more than 45 films in those industries, overseeing the practical and logistical elements that keep film productions running. Credits associated with his production work include the films Jamaai (2014), Mythily Veendum Varunnu (2017), and Kaitholachathan (2018).

Later in his career he moved into direction. His directorial debut was a Malayalam film titled Secrets; principal photography began in 2020 and the project was anticipated for release in July 2023. At the time of his death Secrets remained unreleased.

On 24 June 2023 Baiju traveled to Kozhikode for a film project discussion. According to accounts from his family, he became unwell after eating at a restaurant on the return trip and experienced chest pain and discomfort. He sought treatment at a hospital near Kunnamkulam and was discharged on 25 June 2023, but his symptoms persisted and he was later admitted to a hospital in Kuzhuppilly. As his condition worsened he was transferred to a hospital in Kochi, where he died on the morning of 26 June 2023 at age 42. Family members and reports described suspected food poisoning as the cause.
