Early life and backgroundBaljinder Kaur was born on 14 September 1985 in Talwandi Sabo, Punjab. Raised in a family with ties to local civic life, her biological father is Darshan Singh, who has served as a village sarpanch. She completed her schooling at Kirpal Sagar Academy in Rahon and pursued higher education in Punjab. Baljinder earned a B.A. from Mata Sahib Kaur Girls College in Talwandi Sabo, followed by an M.A. in English and an M.Phil from Punjabi University, Patiala.
Career
Before entering active politics, Baljinder worked as an English professor at Mata Gujri College in Fatehgarh Sahib. She joined the Aam Aadmi Party in 2014 and contested the Talwandi Sabo assembly by-election that same year on the party ticket. Although she did not win in 2014, she remained active within the party and its grassroots work.
Her breakthrough came in the 2017 Punjab assembly elections when she won the Talwandi Sabo seat, defeating the Indian National Congress candidate Khushbaz Singh Jatana by a margin of 19,293 votes. She later contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Bathinda but was not successful.
In 2022 Baljinder Kaur again secured the Talwandi Sabo assembly seat, this time defeating Shiromani Akali Dal's Jeetmohinder Singh Sidhu by 15,252 votes. During her tenure in the state legislature she has been part of several assembly committees. From 2020 to 2021 she served on the Punjab Assembly Committee on Government Assurances. In the 15th Punjab Legislative Assembly she was a member of the Committees on Papers laid/to be laid on the table of the House and Library, and on Subordinate Legislation.
