A constable who accompanied him, Lal Singh, was also struck by the bullet and was subsequently injured.
Both men were transported to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College in Faridkot. Sandhu was declared dead on arrival at the hospital on 29 January 2018 at the age of 50. The injured constable later died on 30 January 2018.
