After the attack that killed his son on 29 May 2022, he described his position in the events of that day: he was traveling in a separate vehicle alongside Sidhu Moose Wala's security detail when multiple vehicles approached and gunmen opened fire. He and others at the scene helped transport the injured to hospital.

In the weeks and months that followed, Balkaur Singh sought a more expansive investigation into the killing. He wrote to the Chief Minister of Punjab demanding that the case be transferred to national investigative agencies and overseen by a panel of judges from the Punjab and High Court.

Public profile

Because of his son's prominence, Balkaur Singh has been a visible figure in public reactions to the tragedy. At his son's cremation he made a widely noted gesture by removing his turban and extending it toward the mourners, an expression he used to convey the depth of his loss.

In July 2022 a life-size statue of Sidhu Moose Wala was unveiled in Moosa at the field where the singer's final rites took place. Balkaur Singh participated in the inauguration and publicly expressed his grief at seeing his son memorialized in that form. Around the same time he and his wife had matching tattoos of their son's image inked on their hands.

Balkaur Singh has also spoken publicly about threats his son received prior to the attack and about precautions the family took. He recounted that the family had purchased an armored vehicle because of repeated threats, but that on the day of the shooting Sidhu Moose Wala had traveled in a different vehicle without the bulletproof car or his security personnel.
