Early life and background

Bavanaka Sandeep was born on 25 April 1992 in Hyderabad. He grew up in a family that supported his cricketing ambitions from an early age; he began playing as a toddler and later converted to batting left-handed on his father’s suggestion. His schooling took place at St Andrews High School and he went on to attend TKR College of Engineering & Technology. His parents are Parmeshwar Bavanaka and Uma Bavanaka, and he has two sisters, Swathi Bavanka and Shalini Bavanaka.

Career

Sandeep progressed steadily through Hyderabad’s junior structure, captaining his school and college sides and representing the state at Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 levels. His performances at junior level led to selection for Hyderabad’s senior team.

He made a notable first-class debut on 10 November 2010 for Hyderabad against Jharkhand in Ranchi, scoring 144 in the first innings. That immediate impact opened further opportunities, including selection for the South Zone side in the Duleep Trophy in 2011. Across his early domestic seasons he posted strong returns with a batting average of around 55 in his first two seasons, and he continued to be a prominent run-scorer for Hyderabad in the years that followed.

By November 2018 Sandeep had passed the 3,000-run mark in first-class cricket. He finished as Hyderabad’s leading run-scorer in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy season, and later became the top run-getter for Hyderabad in the 2019–20 Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy as he adapted more to white-ball cricket alongside his longer-format strengths. Sandeep bats left-handed and bowls slow left-arm orthodox.

In December 2019 he was picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League auction, joining their squad for the 2020 IPL season. Alongside his cricketing endeavours, he secured a government position as an income tax inspector in Hyderabad.

Public profile

Sandeep is known as a southpaw batter who originally developed with a focus on the longer formats before sharpening his T20 game. He stands about 172 cm (5'8") tall and is described as having black hair and black eyes. His listed nationality is Indian and his zodiac sign is Taurus.

Off the field he enjoys reading and long motorcycle rides; he has been photographed and shared posts on social media riding a Kawasaki Ninja 300. As of the available information he had not made an international debut and his domestic teams include Hyderabad and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.
