Bhagyashree was born on 23 February 1969 in Sangli, Maharashtra, into a Marathi royal family. Raised in a conservative household, she attended Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai and later studied at Mithibai College, where she completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Her parents are Vijaysinghrao Madhavrao Patwardhan, a lawyer and the raja of Sangli, and Rohini, a homemaker. She has two sisters, Madhuvanti and Purnima Patwardhan.

Career

Bhagyashree began her on-screen journey with television, appearing in the series Kachchi Dhoop in 1987. Her film debut came two years later when she was cast as Suman in Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), the role that brought her widespread recognition and the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut in 1990. She was also nominated that year for Best Actress for the same film.

Following her debut, Bhagyashree worked across several Indian film industries. Her credits include Qaid Mein Hai Bulbul (1992), Ghar Aaya Mera Pardesi (1993), Sautan Ki Sautan (1997) and later appearances in Red Alert: The War Within (2010) and Radhe Shyam (2022). She featured in Kabhie Kabhie (2003), competed on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 3 (2009), starred in the drama Laut Aao Trisha (2014–2015) and returned to TV with Smart Jodi (2022) and DiD Super Moms Season 3 (2022).
