Early life and backgroundBhairavi Vaidya was born on 1 May 1956 in Mumbai. She grew up in the city that would also be the centre of her professional life. Vaidya attended Sarala Sarjan High School and went on to study at Mithibai College of Arts in Mumbai. She practiced Hinduism and maintained an interest in travelling.
Career
Vaidya began her artistic journey in the theatre, performing in Gujarati stage plays such as Himkavach, Dheshat and Chitkaar. She transitioned to screen work at the end of the 1990s, making her Bollywood debut in the 1999 film Taal, in which she played the role of Janki.
Following that debut, Vaidya appeared in a series of supporting roles in both films and television. Her early television work included the Zee TV series Hasratein (1999), where she portrayed Clara Rodriques. On the big screen she featured in Hera Pheri (2000) and Chori Chori Chupke Chupke (2001), and in 2002 she appeared as Buaji in Humraaz and had a supporting role in Kyaa Dil Ne Kahaa.
Throughout the 2000s and 2010s she continued to take varied character parts. In 2009 she was seen alongside Priyanka Chopra in What’s Your Raashee?, playing Kantaben Patel. Vaidya also worked in television crime programming, appearing in an episode of Savdhaan India in 2017, and she played the mother of Aditya in the Zee TV series Woh Apna Sa the same year.
Her regional film work included the Gujarati movie Ventilator (2018), in which she played Narmada Foi. She embraced digital formats as well, appearing in the 2020 web series Naxalbari on ZEE5 with Rajeev Khandelwal and Tina Datta. In 2021 she was part of the Colors TV series Nima Denzongpa, portraying Pushpa Goenka.
In addition to stage, film and television, Vaidya featured in commercials for several brands over the years, including BigBasket, Figaro Olive Oil, Lux Cozi and Coca Cola.
