Early life and background

Bhajan Kaur was born on 26 August 2005 in Ellenabad, Sirsa, Haryana. Raised in a family with agricultural roots, her father Bhagwan Singh worked as a farmer. She attended Nachiketan Public School in Ellenabad and later enrolled at Chandigarh University in Ajitgarh, Punjab.

Kaur’s entry into archery came while she was still in school. After a senior student left a bow behind, a teacher urged her to try it. Her immediate aptitude for the sport caught the attention of coaches and teachers and set her on the path to competitive archery. Her family supported her ambition despite financial constraints; her father arranged funds to buy her a kit to begin formal training.

Career

Bhajan Kaur has represented Haryana and India across junior and senior events, building an extensive medal record on the national circuit before making an impact internationally. On the domestic front she collected multiple medals at National Games and national championships, including team golds at the National Games in 2019 and 2020 and individual and team gold medals at national events through 2022.

In 2022 Kaur enjoyed a particularly strong run: she won gold in the sub-junior girls recurve categories at the 1st NTPC National Ranking Archery Tournament and took multiple medals at the National Championship in Alwar, including team and individual golds as well as a mixed-team silver. She was also third-ranked at the 41st NTPC Senior National Archery Championship and won gold for Haryana in the individual event.

Her international breakthrough continued in 2022 and 2023. Kaur won gold and two silver medals at an Asia Cup stage in Iraq and reached later rounds at World Cup events. In April 2023 she advanced to the semi-finals of the Archery World Cup stage in Antalya, Turkey, and earlier in that event she defeated Alejandra Valencia in a 6–5 quarterfinal result. She was listed among the top 10 competitors at the Archery World Cup Stage 3 in Medellin, Colombia in June 2023.

At youth level she earned bronze at the World Archery Youth Championships in 2023, defeating Su Hsin-Yu of Chinese Taipei 7–1 in the U-21 women’s recurve individual competition. On the senior international stage she was part of the Indian women's recurve trio with Ankita Bhakat and Simranjeet Kaur that secured the bronze medal in the women’s team recurve event at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou after beating Vietnam in the bronze-medal match.

By 2023 Kaur had also collected a bronze in the recurve team event at the Archery World Cup in Paris and added further national titles, including gold at the NTPC Senior National Archery Championship.
