Early life and background

Bharat Sundaresan was born on 8 May 1985 in Mumbai and grew up in the city. He attended Fatima High School in Vidyavihar West and later completed a journalism course at the Asian College of Journalism in Chennai. Sundaresan’s hometown is listed as Adelaide, Australia, reflecting the city he later made his base.

Career

Sundaresan began his professional journalism career at The Indian Express in May 2008, joining as a special correspondent and cricket writer. Although his first published story at the paper covered chess, he quickly transitioned to reporting on the Indian cricket team and remained with The Indian Express for more than a decade, leaving the paper at the end of 2018.

In December 2018 he moved to Adelaide and took up the role of Australian correspondent and senior writer for the cricket website Cricbuzz. His relocation followed earlier visits to the city for cricket coverage, including the 2014/15 Border-Gavaskar Series.

Alongside his work as a reporter, Sundaresan has authored and co-authored books on Indian cricket. He wrote The Dhoni Touch: Unravelling the Enigma that is Mahendra Singh Dhoni, which became a national bestseller in India in 2018. He also co-wrote Believe with cricketer Suresh Raina and, together with Gaurav Joshi, co-authored The Miracle Makers — Indian Cricket’s Greatest Epic.

Beyond writing, Sundaresan works as a colour commentator for SEN, a Melbourne-based sports radio station, and has contributed to numerous television news and current affairs programs in Australia. He travels extensively to cover cricket series around the world and has written for a variety of international publications.

In 2019 he began umpiring with the South Australian Cricket Association, adding on-field officiating to his professional involvement in the sport.
