Early life and background

Bhargavi Chirmuley was born on 29 March 1978 in Girgaon, Mumbai, and grew up in the Dadar neighbourhood where she completed her schooling at Raja Shivaji Vidyalaya. She later attended Doongasree Gangji Ruparel College in Dadar. From an early age she was drawn to dance; she trained in Bharatanatyam and performed at a number of events.

Career

Chirmuley’s screen career began in Marathi cinema with Vishwavinayak in 1994. She moved between film, television and stage work, developing a reputation for both dramatic roles and for dancing on screen.

On television she made an early mark with the Marathi series Prapanch in 1999. Between 2006 and 2009 she portrayed Bhairavi Kirloskar in the Zee Marathi drama Vahinisaheb. Other TV credits include Molkarin Bai – Mothi Tichi Savali (2009), a role in Siya Ke Ram (2015–2016) as Sunaina, and a part as Meenakshi in the serial Aai – Mayech Kavach (2021). She also appeared in the historical Zee Marathi series Lokmanya in 2022.

Her film work spans lead and supporting roles as well as cameos. She was the main lead in the award-winning film Gulhar (2022) and in Hichyasathi Kay Pan (2018). Earlier film appearances include Ideachi Kalpana (2010) as the female lead Preeti Thakur, One Room Kitchen (2012), and Sandook (2015) in a supporting role. She has been credited with cameo appearances in titles such as T. K. Patil (1994), Navra Maza Bhavra (2013) and Oli Ki Suki (2017).

Chirmuley has also been active on stage, performing in Marathi plays including Himalayachi Savali, Zopi Gelela Jaga Zala, Amchya Hicha Prakaran and Yetoy To Khatoy. Her dance background contributed to televised dance appearances: she performed as a Lavani dancer in Pinjara (2011), took part in and won the dance reality show Eka Peksha Ek in 2011, and appeared on the comedy programme Fu Bai Fu the same year.
