Early life and background

Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary was born on 30 June 1966 in Mehandari Sikandarpur Village in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. He completed his early schooling at RN Inter College and enrolled at Hindu Degree College, but left formal studies after his first year. Before entering full-time political work he worked as a manager at Krishak Upkarak Inter College.

Career

Chaudhary’s public life moved from social activism into partisan politics. In 1989 he left his managerial position to join the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. Two years later, in 1991, he became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and began a long association with the party that continues to the present.

He rose through local party ranks, taking a BJP district executive role in 1993. The party fielded him as a parliamentary candidate in the 1999 Lok Sabha elections from the Sambhal constituency, where he faced Mulayam Singh Yadav. In 2012 Chaudhary was appointed a regional president within the BJP, and in 2016 he was nominated to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) from the Moradabad constituency.

When the BJP formed the state government in 2017, Chaudhary was sworn in as Panchayati Raj Minister on 19 March 2017. During his tenure the state reported large-scale construction of household toilets; media sources attributed the creation of many open-defecation-free districts to that campaign. His work as Panchayati Raj Minister and his standing within the party culminated in his appointment as BJP state president for Uttar Pradesh on 25 August 2022.
