Bhuvan Bam (BB Ki Vines) Biography
Bhuvan Bam is an Indian comedian, singer, actor and writer who rose to fame through his YouTube channel BB Ki Vines. Known for playing multiple comic roles
Early life and backgroundBhuvaneshwar Bam was born on 22 January 1994 in Baroda, Gujarat. His family moved to New Delhi during his childhood, and he grew up there. He attended Green Fields School in New Delhi and later enrolled at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, where he completed a bachelor’s degree in History. As a young student he developed an interest in music, learned classical singing while at college, and initially worked as a singer at a local restaurant in Delhi.
Bam’s parents are Avnindra Bam and Padma Bam. He has a brother, Aman Bam, who is a pilot. His upbringing included a variety of interests—he once wanted to be an archaeologist—and he enjoys playing the guitar and travelling. He is a non-vegetarian and keeps a pet dog named Maddy.
Career
Bhuvan Bam began creating content for the internet in the mid-2010s. He uploaded an early video that took aim at insensitive media coverage of a tragic news story; that clip earned attention across the region and inspired him to establish his own channel. He launched BB Ki Vines in 2015 and started developing short comedy sketches in which he performs several recurring characters. Among the personas he portrays are Banchoddas, Sameer Fuddi, Titu Mama, Bablu, Pinki and Mr. Hola, each bringing a different flavour to his short-form stories.
His first public video titled "The Chakhna Issue" was an initial effort that received only a handful of views and was later removed. In time, however, his channel grew rapidly. By 2018 he became the first individual Indian YouTube personality to surpass 10 million subscribers, and as of 2020 his channel had more than 19.3 million subscribers. He has delivered TED Talks at IIIT Delhi and Jaypee University of Information Technology and contributed to YouTube’s community activities, including India’s participation in a YouTube Summit competition.
Bam has broadened his creative work beyond sketches. He released the music video "Teri Meri Kahani" in 2016 and followed with other music releases such as "Sang Hoon Tere," "Safar," "Rahguzaar," and "Ajnabee." He also created a digital series called "Titu Talks" in 2018 and appeared in the short film "Plus Minus" (2018), which later earned a Filmfare Award for Best Short Film in 2019. His collaborations include work with Pakistani creators and with Indian digital content producers such as TVF (The Viral Fever).
Bam has received multiple recognitions for his work. His channel won The Most Popular Channel award at the WebTV Asia Awards in 2016, he was felicitated at the Hindustan Times Game Changer Awards in 2017, and he was honoured with the Icon of the Year award at the Glammy Awards in 2023. He has also been featured on the cover of Grazia magazine.
Public profile
Bhuvan Bam is known for maintaining a public persona focused on creative output rather than tabloid-style visibility. He avoids smoking and drinking, a personal choice he discussed in a public conversation. In June 2021 he shared the news that both his parents had died from COVID-19 complications. He continues to engage audiences through music, sketches and live appearances and has used his platform for social causes, including raising funds for migrant workers during the COVID-19 pandemic through a video initiative called "Lifelines of Society."
Latest updates
In 2023 Bam was reported to be hosting the Indian edition of the game show Takeshi’s Castle on Amazon Prime Video.
