Early life and background

William Gaither Crudup was born on July 8, 1968, in Manhasset, New York. He spent parts of his childhood moving with his family, living in Texas and later Florida. Crudup attended Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, graduating in 1986. He went on to study at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and then completed a Master of Fine Arts at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in 1994. During his undergraduate years he took acting classes at the LAB! Theatre and performed in student productions, including a children’s musical where he played Schroeder.

Crudup launched his professional career on stage and screen.
